Breaking the first Commandment is a big No-No!

Tags:

We all understand that breaking the first Commandment is a big No-No! Is it possible that we are offenders without even realizing it?  Lets take a peek at our scripture for today!

Mark 12: 28-34

Then one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, “Which is the first commandment of all?”

Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

So the scribe said to Him, “Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth, for there is one God, and there is no other but He.  And to love Him with all the heart, with all the understanding, with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself, is more than all the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

Now when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, He said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.”

But after that no one dared question Him.

Let’s Think About it Together

I love the Lord God with all my heart, with all my soul, with all my mind, and with all my strength…… sometimes I sure don’t act like it! I get into the bad habit of loving my checklist more than time spent in prayer. I need to catch up on a TV show in the late night hours more than I need to catch up on my daily Bible reading. I’m too exhausted and busy with homework so I skip church on Wednesday Night.

Perhaps it’s a harsh comparison but when I slowly start putting other activities, projects or mindsets before God am I really loving Him with all my heart, mind, soul and strength? I miss opportunities with God here and there and that’s part of being human. When those missed opportunities are allowed to become routine, that’s when it becomes dangerous.

Reading this scripture hurts my heart today!  I’ve been a slacker when it comes to placing God first in my life and I’m not the least bit interested in breaking rule #1 !!!  I’m considering more daily devotionals to keep myself on track. Hope you will join me.

Let’s Pray About it Together

Dear Heavenly Father, this earthly life tends to give us unending checklists when it comes to balancing our time, talents and emotional relationship with you. We love you with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and we will strive daily to to make you our first priority.

Take care until we meet again.
