God’s love extends to the heavens. How is it possible to understand this statement when we don’t even know where the heavens begin or end? Let’s take a peak at our scripture for today.
Psalm 36:5-12 (RSV)
Thy steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens,
thy faithfulness to the clouds.
Thy righteousness is like the mountains of God,
thy judgments are like the great deep;
man and beast thou savest, O Lord.
How precious is thy steadfast love, O God!
The children of men take refuge in the shadow of thy wings.
They feast on the abundance of thy house,
and thou givest them drink from the river of thy delights.
For with thee is the fountain of life;
in thy light do we see light.
O continue thy steadfast love to those who know thee,
and thy salvation to the upright of heart!
Let not the foot of arrogance come upon me,
nor the hand of the wicked drive me away.
There the evildoers lie prostrate,
they are thrust down, unable to rise.
Let’s think about it
God’s love extends to the heavens. Where are the heavens exactly? Do they begin where the horizion turns blue or perhaps just past the billowing white clouds overhead? Do they extend past the stars and into galaxy beyond? Since the heavens have no beginning and no end, it’s impossible to fully understand the depth and unconditional vastness of God’s love.
The love of God is steadfast, meaning it is faithful, loyal and eternally devoted. It extends to us anywhere and everywhere. It embraces any and absolutely everyone. It cannot be confined in a moment of time or limited to an area of space.
Have you come to a place where you feel lost or that you cannot be loved? Are you wrestling with feelings of loneliness and hopelessness? Do your days feel broken while your nights have become a restless shift of tossing and turning? The devil is the master trickster when it comes to filling your mind with worries and thoughts that you cannot be loved or you do not deserve a second chance.
Although I may not understand much, I can tell you with sincere simplicity……… God’s love is bigger than any of that.
Let’s pray about it
Dear Heavenly Father, we are thankful for your unconditional love. It has no beginning and no end. Sometimes we feel undeserving or unworthy. During seasons in life our spirits become lost and broken. Please guide our eyes towards the heavens and beyond as we search our hearts to feel your presence. Amen.
